Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL)
On May 8 of 2018, United States President Donald Trump publicly announces he will no longer support the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran Nuclear Deal. This prompts congress to reimpose sanctions invocation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231, endorsing the JCPOA. Sanctions imposed unilaterally by the United States were devastating for Irans economy and the Rial plunged against the dollar in the months to follow. The international community remembers regretfully the hundreds of thousands of innocent lives that were lost in United States unilateral sanctions in Iraq and fear this type of humanitarian disaster. Iran still has not recovered from the American and British economic statecraft that resulted in the exploitation of Irans natural resources that characterized the greater part of the 20th century yet they may be subject to even further economic deterioration without due cause. It is your role as delegates and the duty of the Special Political and Decolonization Committee to address these issues in a post-colonial world so as prevent further exploitation and prevent a humanitarian disaster. The future of millions rests in your hands!
