Secretary-General

Oliver Grannis is a junior in Columbia College studying sustainable development and political science with a focus on international relations. He's originally from the Hudson Valley, where he ran the MUN club at his high school. At Columbia, Oliver is involved in politics, journalism, and law. Oliver enjoys poetry, piano performance, and composing. He is planning on studying environmental law. MUN played a large part in Oliver's professional, and academic career and he hopes that students will get as much out of CESIMS as possible! Director-General

Victoria Melkonyan is a Junior in Columbia College studying Political Science and Comparative Literature with a focus on acquiring languages. Originally from both Cape Cod and Western Massachusetts, she co-founded her rural high school’s first Model UN club in 8th grade and has grown to love MUN for its unique teaching ability. Aside from her work with MUN and MUN-related activities, she is an avid performer and writer and often authors coverage for Bwog, one of Columbia’s foremost independent news publications. Victoria hopes to one day pursue a career in journalism, publishing, or political campaign work. She is beyond happy to be contributing to CESIMS and hopes that all of the delegates not only develop their MUN skills but heartily enjoy themselves. Chief-of-Staff

Jesus Vargas is a second-year student at Columbia College studying Political Science and East Asian Studies with a focus on American Politics. He’s originally from the Chicago area where he used to head his high school’s MUN team. At Columbia, Jesus has previously staffed for both CMUNCE and CESIMS. Jesus is also involved with the Barnard Gardening Club and the QuestBridge Scholars Network chapter on campus. Growing up in an immigrant family and community, Jesus hopes to one day work for an immigration non-profit or in immigration or criminal law. During his free time, Jesus can be found exploring the different neighborhoods of the city, taking pictures, and searching for the best Mexican or Korean cuisine in the city. He is excited to serve as Under-Secretary General of Committees for CESIMS 2024 and will work hard to ensure a fun day of MUN for all! Chief of Education

Anna Qiang is a sophomore at Columbia University majoring in East Asian Languages & Cultures. Originally from New Jersey, Anna participated in Model UN for all four years of high school, and is beyond excited to serve as the Chief of Education at Columbia. As someone who is passionate for education and community service, Anna hopes to make a difference and create an encouraging environment at CESIMS. Outside of CESIMS, Anna is a Global Ambassador for International at Columbia and an editor for the Columbia Undergraduate Law Review. In her free time, you can find her exploring the city or making Spotify playlists. She can’t wait for CESIMS and is thrilled to make a lasting educational impact. USG of Education

Eliana Steele is a first-year student at Barnard College studying Linguistics, with an interest in the preservation of endangered langauges. She is originally from the East San Francisco Bay Area and has been doing MUN since her freshman year of high school. She is a deputy Head Delegate for Columbia's MUN travel team, is on the secretariat for Columbia's collegiate MUN conference, CMUNNY, and Columbia's other high school conference, CMUNCE. Outside of MUN, Eliana is a Creative Director for the Barnard Bulletin and has done various forms of graphic design work. 

USG of Committees

Jonathan Waldmann is a freshman in Columbia College studying political science and economics with a minor in French. He is originally from Milton, Massachusetts, and he has now done Model UN for six years. In addition to working with CESIMS, he is also involved with Columbia’s Model UN travel team and two of its other conferences. Outside of Model UN, he enjoys skiing, backpacking, and exploring New York City.
